THE RULES
1. Only ARTIFICIAL LURES and FLIES allowed.
2. NO TROLLING ALLOWED, fishing at anchor or on the drift only.
3.Each angler is only allowed to have a MAXIMUM OF THREE RODS in a boat / kayak. AN ANGLER IS ONLY ALLOWED TO FISH WITH ONE ROD AT ANY TIME, any angler caught fishing with two rods will be disqualified!
4. A maximum of two hooks allowed on fishing rigs, trebles count as one hook.
5. Any lure over three inch’s in length must be attached to main line via a wire trace, anglers discretion and experience is expected with lures under three inch - FISH WELFARE IS PARAMOUNT!
6. All boats / kayaks must have an unhooking mat and appropriate unhooking equipment (Long nose forceps and pliers).
7. All kayak anglers should make themselves available to fellow competitors IF they require help unhooking, measuring and photographing a fish they have caught. Any substantiated claims of poor sportsmanship will incur a minus six inch penalty on accused competitor's catch returns. FISH WELFARE IS PARAMOUNT!
8. All fish have to be photographed on the official measuring tape to qualify in the competition.
9. Fish are measured from tip of nose to the end tail fin, fish tail fin maybe pushed together to obtain maximum fish length. Any photograph not clearly showing the fish’s nose and end of tail will not be accepted by the organiser.
10. Competitors may catch more than one of each species with the longest fish counting as submitted fish.
11. All competitors must sign in at Esthwaite fishing lodge before 9am to register for the event. A pre Challenge talk will commence at 9am prompt whereby anglers will be given an official fish measure and catch return form.
12. All competitors must sign back in between 4:45pm and 5pm at the notified launch or be disqualified - no exceptions!
13. All competitors must complete a catch return form and hand them in at the fishing lodge before 05:15pm or be disqualified – no exceptions!
14. All boat teams must make themselves available to present photographs to the organiser between 5:30pm and 6pm or be disqualified – no exceptions!
14a. All kayak anglers must make themselves available to present photographs to the organiser between 5:45pm and 6:15pm or be disqualified – no exceptions!
15. All competitors must use a digital camera with an image display feature and ensure that they have the appropriate USB leads for image upload onto a PC.
16. All kayak anglers must have a warning whistle on their person whilst afloat. It can be used to attract other kayak anglers attention for assistance with unhooking a fish IF required or safety assistance - either way its going to get help to you.
17. NO ANGLER CAN WIN MORE THAN ONE PRIZE! Should an angler be eligible for more than one prize, they may select which one they would like and the next best angler in the category not selected is awarded a prize by default.
17a. An angler may collect more than one prize if he or she is the only angler eligible within that specific prize category. For example, he or she is the only angler to catch a fish on a fly lure and has won another prize category.
18. In the event of an equal "Grand Slam" combined fish length, the result shall be decided by the longest Perch, if that is the same then longest Trout and finally longest Pike.
19. The Esthwaite fishery management team will be JUDGE & JURY with regards to FISH LENGTHS RECORDED for the challenge!
