Main Sponsors:
SAVAGEGEAR & NORTH WEST ANGLING CENTRE
Additional Sponsors:
HARRIS SPORTSMAIL, HEATHOLDERS, PIKETREK, LURE-ANGLERS-SHOP, BROOKBANK, SUNLINE, WINDERMERE CANOE & KAYAK
A special thanks to mhcustomlures.blogspot.co.uk & Kato Jig Flies for supplying the lures within the oak framed trophy box sets.
The Venue
The fishing boundary on the plan above only applies between March & September (fisheries trout season)
Very little is known about the Perch fishing on Esthwaite Water and few anglers seriously target Trout with lures on the venue. A few anglers will have experience and knowledge on the lures and techniques required to catch Pike at Esthwaite, generally the venue provides a level playing field for all competitors.
Tactics
Deciding the right tactics on the day will be critical if you are to be successful in the tournament. It’s not about speed but more about forward thinking and using your fishing time wisely. Here are a few criteria’s you ought to be considering before casting a lure!
TARGET SPECIES – the order in which you decide to fish for them closely linked to the next criteria.
FISHING GROUNDS – making a decision on areas you think might produce certain species and a schedule of when you might cover them. Motoring up and down the lake will waste valuable fishing time – have a plan!
OBSERVATION & FLEXIBILITY – keep one eye on what’s happening underneath the water and the other on what’s happening ON THE WATER! Fishing conditions can change with angling pressure. Always have a plan B!
ORGANISATION – have a methodical process prepared in your head regarding how you intend to record your catch. A poor photograph of a fish may result in the judicator’s earring on the side of caution and validating a lower fish length rather than a higher measurement. I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to have your fish presented on a flat surface against the official measure. The head of the fish must be clearly seen at the start of the measure and I advise closing the V of the fish’s tail to maximise its length.
FLEXIBILITY – weather conditions change making certain fishing grounds more difficult to fish hindering presentation. This will lower your chances of catching fish. I am sure everybody has heard of this phrase “It’s like peeing into the wind”. Be wise with your fishing time, don’t squander it!
That’s enough material for now, have a chew on what I have written and post your thoughts on this thread and welcome to tournament lure angling .
