Hi all, I have managed to gain kayak angler access to my old fishery in Frisby on the wreake near Melton Mowbray. There are 2 lakes and a stretch of the river wreake nestled in around 100 acres with tons of parking, clubhouse with tackle shop, showers, toilets and cafe as well as slipway and mooring, its an ex sailing lake and as such there are plenty of places to lash your Yak why you go for a brew! The Lakes: Main Lake/Sailing Lake:44 acres and stuffed with features including bays, channels, islands and features to go at! Stocked with Pike to 29lb (Pictured I caught it ) Carp to 40lb, Zander to 14lb (lots of doubles), BIG Perch, Tench, Bream, Roach and Rudd. Great water than can be tricky at times, especially for the Carp but always lots of action on lures. One of the most noted big Zander waters in the UK. 'Boys Pit'The Boys pit is around 14 acres and stuffed with features just like the main lake, a noted Tench water with fish to 12lb caught this season, Crucian Carp, Roach, Rudd, Perch and Pike are also present in numbers. The River Wreake
Around a mile of River to go at with lots of Pike to 20lb and clonking chub! Cost:£12.50 per day which includes launch and fishing dawn till' dusk. You MUST call Mark in advance to book on, he is very keen to embrace the Kayak fishing but PLEASE ensure you read all rules on website and speak to Mark about areas that may be best avoided due to bivvy boys, especially weekends. He is a great bloke who is really keen on getting involved and a good mate so lets enjoy! Contact Mark on: 07414 777571 Website: www.frisbylakes.co.ukBelow are a pics of double figure Zed and 32lb Carp I have caught at the Lake, so as you can see its a decent water!

Lots of Perch, some clonkers! I fished with the LAS last year and won a prize for biggest Perch, it was 3lb 5oz but bigger do get caught. The picture below is of a catch of Perch I had on main lake on small jigs last year in the sluice on main lake, all over 1lb with 2 over 2lb, biggest 3lb 1oz.

This brings back some memories. I used to bike 3 miles there to fish over 40 years ago. Cane rod and centrepin reel. Cans of tab, wagon wheels and No.6 fags!
My Mum still lives in the same house I grew up in so will certainly be giving this a try this year. Great news, well done!

It is a lovely place, middle of nowhere to which is nice. The really nice thing about the place is there are plenty of camping spots and being such a big site you can always find a quiet spot to camp, on the islands is a favorite of mine! Im going to try and organise a 2 day event in September, I am going to involve the LAS and other clubs I have worked with in the past.

are there still chub in the pits ?

You do get the Chub in the main lake, especially around the sluice gates. I have had some unbelievable sessions for Chub and Perch in the sluice, I also had the 29lb Pike just up from it.

Really glad you are enjoying fishing the lakes, we really should get a few of us together and get down there. The Bream fishing is very much ignored on there but can be incredible, the open water in front of the 50's is alive with Bream between 4lb and 8lb and I really fancy fishing the float off the yak for them. As I said though really glad you are enjoying the place, nearly got another venue in the bag to, Carp anglers especially will be very pleased!

Looks like the sort of place a popper fly would work a treat for the pike. Can you fly fish if on the kayak at this venue.

When I was there I organised many events with the lure anglers society and piketrek, a lot of the lads fished the fly fir pike and zed's,I have had plenty of pike on the lure and, believe it or not rudd!

It's just the predators though Phil. No surface strictly baits for the carp. But the chub in the river might be an option.

Bream....... ? I bet the tench might sniff round the ground bait too.

Is Frisby still an option? I used to fish there when I was based in Melton. Would be nice to hit an old haunt during the closed season.
