I am pleased to say we now have access to Six Hills Jetski Lake just off the A46 between Leicester and Newarke.
The lake is about 4 acres in size with an island in the middle. Depths vary between 15ft and 4ft. The water is very clear but there is a lot of weed so you will have to search out a swim. There is still plenty of water.
The water has never been fished since it wast dug out by Severn Trent 30 years ago as an overspill for a drinking water lake nearby. Jackster did an electro fishing exercise a few weeks ago and netted carp between 8ozs and 15lbs so we know it is fishable. Having said that the water owner has no fish knowledge and does not know what else it contains so it is going to be interesting to fish this water for the first time.
The great thing is the fish have not been exposed to bait at all and as such the KISS ( Keep It Simple Stupid! ) should be the rule here.
There is parking very close to the water and a concrete slip. There is a toilet and changing facilities available.
As normal there are certain conditions attached to the access.
Open 9am to 6pm Mon-Fri. Weekend access MAY be available by telephone.
This is a jet ski lake and if there is more money to be made from that then we come second as it is a business after all. Therefore ALWAY RING the day before but weekdays and Winter should give the best access.
Price is £10 per day all in.
You MUST have insurance via the BCU or AT etc.
You MUST wear a PFD at all times.
You MUST have and USE an unhooking mat or similar as the carp need to be protected. Remember these fish should be in mint condition and we need to make sure they stay that way.
There are no restrictions on baits or methods. Keepnets can be used.
You can ONLY launch and land at the slipway. Most of the bank around the lake is owned by the golf club and you should not go onto it, unless there is an emergency.
We can arrange group meets there and if we had enough we could have exclusive access on the event day.
Remember you MUST RING before visiting. Paul who runs it is a nice guy and very helpful and you can get a coffee but do not expect any fishing tips.
Ring him on: 07799654321
I, for one, am really looking forward to fishing this lake as it is a total mystery and the though of being the first person to catch these fish is very tantalising.
Terry.
Now the pictures:
Head left (East) from the Six Hill junction on the A46. You will see the entry to Six Hills Golf Course.
Turn immediately left where my car is coming out.
Park at the bottom and you will see the slip.
The lake.
There is a lot of floating weed in the margins and some beds on the lake.
