hi oddleg i to wish to use a Canadian canoe on the rivers fishing but when i did my 2star canoe the canoes we used were a bit big to handle by myself,im just shopping about looking for a small ish one? its a very romantic way of fishing if you are forced to take the wife lol,and also i did find it a bit difficult to handle, and when tipped over was hard to self rescue and empty the boat of water, but hay we soon get the hang of things sooner or later

I saw an article about this on AA site which linked to youtube demonstrating self rescue in a canadian canoe. Technique again but quite doable. The man to ask is Ken Oliver ( carpyken ) the partner of Fi at Wet n Wild in Hull because they use one on the local rivers and I am sure Fi could arrange a trip for you if there is a potential sale there. Been there! Got the tee shirt!!!! If I was you dont bother with a sit in, far to unstable for fishing from, I know I wasted my money on one. Go straight for a sit on top and you will be fine.

A few of the guys over on Song of the Paddle fish from their canoes but I think it is only small scale.

I started off fishing from a Canadian. They are nowhere near as comfortable or usable for fishing as a SOT either solo or tandem.
The main difficulties are anchoring for static fishing and paddling quickly or smoothly enough when trolling. Also on big rivers or lakes, they are very vulnerable to wind and chop.
We only use the Canadian to fish now when we're feeling lazy and we have an electric trolling motor attached. Needs to be at least two of you though as can't easily steer and fish at same time.
The Canadian comes into it's own for picnics and general messing about on hot sunny days though!

They can be a great platform for fishing on rivers, they have their limitations but stick one on a canal or slow moving river and its mighty fine to fish from.
Moving them about solo on the water does take practis but once you practise it isn't hard.
