OK Lads, 2nd mini meet planned for: River Nene, Potters Way, Peterborough, 8th December.
This is a hard core car park with a slipway just east of the Embankment.
I reckon about 8am, not sure if you want to meet on the bank or at McDonalds on the shopping estate about 500yds before the car park.
Nigel has suggested we make it a Fur and Feather style meet where every one brings any 'item' as a gift and we have a raffle/draw on the day. How do you feel? It could be a seasonal laugh ;D
So....who's coming?

Bananaman / Steve has been added to the list he is the manager of Norfolk Canoes and is making a donation to the day. So if you can think of a friendly competitive edge we can add to the say go ahead.

Lot of water between Orton Lock and Dog in the Doublet Sluice plus Kings Dyke Might make the Xmas shopper walking along the Embankment wonder whats happening.

Just been having a look on google maps, opposite the car park there is a branch going off the main nene and then a section that goes round and through a housing estate, may be totally different on the ground but that looks like potentially a good mark

That is the Old Nene Keith, known as the Kings Dyke, it feeds into the drains and is a fishery.

Hi Guys
Just some info for you. I went down to Pottersway the other day for a paddle and noticed the Height Barrier was locked. I had to take the kayak off the roof of the car to drive under it. I think they have done this due to problems with travellers camping down by the Nene. Also on the Slipway they have put a large concerete block to stop boats launching for what reason I dont know. Theres enough room either side of the block to get the kayak past and I launched no problem. Just thought id let you know. Cheers Lee

Lee,
What car were you in? I had that problem at Ferry Meadows when I had a Galaxy but with a Focus estate I would have no problem.
What was the fishing like?
Are you coming on the 8th Lee?

Hi Terry
I was in a Renault Scenic Megane, the barrier down there is fairly low down. problem is the barrier is just past the flats so theres still a bit of a distance from there to the river bank so i put the kayak back on top of the car to drive down to the carpark. I didnt do any fishing that day just went for a paddle to test my shoulder out as im still recovering from a shoulder OP, everything was fine though. Yeah Im planning on being there hopefully as long as things dont change at work.

I'm guessing that going to cause some problems for a transit van then?

That's very generous, much appreciated. It almost looks like I could park roadside just before the barrier? Someone with first hand knowledge may be able to confirm if this is possible? I don't mind a walk trollying the yak. Looks like I'm stuffed either way with the van or 4x4.

We can muddle through even if it means shuttling athe gear through.

I think you can park up before the barrier steve. I have done in the past when I had my van, was just a bit of a drag lugging the kayak down across the gravel carpark to get down to the river. Sure we can sort something out and shuttle the stuff down as Stu says.

I have just put in the 'news bar' that I will bring a spare kayak, the Kaafu, so if you have a mate that wants to try kayak fishing first name up reserves it.

Cheers Stu. Just thought if we have someone on the fringe it might be nice to offer a chance to try it.
It would be a great chance for someone.
