Couldn't do it yesterday- 15 hour day but today went to ely again to drop some more groundbait down , feeding three areas, one where I know pike are usualy found turned up a nice pike of 12 -14 lb for a local , hope he's still around I'm feeding him so he should be ! but its always been a good spot for pike, the other two areas are good for zander and hopefully I'm luring more in ;D Talking to locals it seems the usual small jellies and shads are not catching like they used to, maybe the fish are getting wary of them, but still some are getting caught, the opinion is the rain puts the fish off. The pike was caught on livebait by the way, although it might be unpolitical to livebait in the city centre part. A few god perch are showing as well outside the pub water levels are nice and this rain run off should have gone through by sat just in time for all those hungry fish to go hunting There is a tesco next to the railway station, easy to find and 1/2 mile by road from quay, checked out the costa coffe there and it will be open at 07.00 on Saterday morning, there is the tesco-costa next to the station, a fish and chip shop 150 yard walk from the quay launch spot ,toilets very near and open at 08.00. The launch area is nice and clear ( if the ducks havn't crapped all over it again ) and we can easily stange out all our yaks for a nice picture, that has got to be done Do ask if there is anything else I can check Chris

Pretty much covered everything i`d say chris ;D I was thinking of livebaiting but think i`ll just stick to deads this time around and throw a few shads and jellies around

I am home from Durham, got Friday off to get some dead baits....should I go for smelt ( my favourite) or freshwater deads?
You cannot imagine how proud I am feeling.....my little baby is barely a month old and already we are going to have what will be ( excluding Esthwaite ) probably the largest freshwater kayak fishing meet yet. Thank you lads for all your work and support.
Camera shots are a must, I have a mini tripod if I can work out the timer so we can all get in one shot. I am bringing a little telescopic in an effort for lives or very fresh deads. I presume red/white maggots are the bait to have.
I will try and trim my gear down but I just know I will bring too much as usual.
Weather looking good wind forecast has dropped right down.
Terry

From a personal point of view i think lives far out fish deads on the drains i fish and cant see it being any different there I`ll have smelt lamprey and small macks tho i also favour smelt. I`m also trying to cut back on what i`m taking another reason for not trying lives its more to take.

this is gonna be brilliant Terry.....well done mate
can we not use radios aslong as somebody has the certicate ?
i have roach deads if anyone needs any and macky tails.
are we likely to be over looked by passers by (is it busy round the area were fishing ?)

Radios are alwayts a very delicate issue.
I do not have a license, I do have a radio and always carry it on the sea. There is no problem transmitting in an emergency and at sea I am always solo so have never used it for conversation although I do monitor for forecasts and CH16.
As for knowledge of how to use it I spent 13 years in the police using radios so I am happy that my competence levels are ok.
Monitoring transmisions from certificated users is not an issue having said that how far apart are we actually going to be? Who amongst us has a certificate?

I think the plan is drop yaks and kit off on the grass and drive round and park cars up in the car park and walk back ready for the group photo

Right there Stu, you can pull up and unload right next to the launch spot, nice bit of cleaned ! area to put yaks on, you can park quite close if you want to pay ! or drive 200 yards and park for free, get a coffe from costa on your way in and your sorted. I too plan to go with deads and small jellies, maybe sink and draw a dead too. The deadbait I've been putting down is choped macky, herring and roach so anything thats been on them should be up for a similar deadbait from us, well thats my thinking !

Its a very easy going place ,never had any trouble, I've left tackle to take my lad to the loos and nothings ever been taken, who'd mess with a bunch of nutters in canoes and funny clothing with manic grins all over their faces ?

Good to meet all of you, and the weather was great- just wish the fishing had been too. I tried with plugs, small jelly, the afternoon with eel, macky, roach and the one and only smelt I had, all to no avail,on the bottom, popped up and on the drift, never had a bite ! When I think back to the night before when I saw zander chasing fry all over the place it makes no sense.Maybe as they had been off the feed with all the rain and last night were manic and just stuffed themselves ? certainly the bank anglers were doing no better. O well it is called" fishing-" not "catching" isn't it ? Now where else can we look at ?

A great day, nice to meet everyone and I enjoyed the location and the view the skullers may be a bit careless but you have to excuse some of the rather attractive ones. It was all a great laugh with plenty of banter and talk of plans for the future. Like Chris I had not a single touch the reassuring thing is that locals found it hard too. I was amazed at how clear and low the water was, especially as I drove home and saw the same river as a torrent and over it's banks in St Ives. Couple of pics of one of Stu's fish to follow taken just before it's 'Colditz moment', The Great Escape!!
