Can we launch from the other side of the river, just over tue bridge...it would be free.... I drove past today and its very coloured. It looks better on the south side of the bridge, lots more reeds and cover on the bank.

It looks better on the south side of the bridge, lots more reeds and cover on the bank. Do you mean at Brandy Wharf or somewhere near Brigg. There are several places that you can get down but have you ever tried getting on and off a kayak when looking at an 18-24'' drop and the water is too deep to stand. I have and it is not easy, the point of going to the caravan site is that we have a slipway and safe car parking with very easy access to good pike waters. Just let me know where you are refering and if possible, I will go and take a look. Phil

Its opposite the slip at the caravan park.mind ,it was a tad muddy on the bank. The level gauge box is there as well.
I called in.as I had been in Grimsby today so.veered off the m180 to sneak a peak.
Its a lovely location, ill bet its busy in summer.

I think the difficulty with the Ancholme is that it is down country lanes, probably unsalted. The lake Phil mentions is on busier roads and just off the M180 so if the snow is not too bad it may be accessible. If they get it bad then perhaps we would have to stay a bit south.

Folks, At this point, in view of the weather and risks involved, I feel I must make it clear that this is a day's fishing arranged by a group of individuals who happen to be CKF members. This is NOT an official CKF meet and as such CKF does not endorse the meet or encourage any member to travel in adverse weather conditions and cannot be deemed responsible for any accidents, injuries or loss at, or en-route to, the meet. I know it sounds daft but I think I had to say it to protect myself. I hope you all understand.

Hopefully it`ll be ice free for you. I fancied a paddle today and popped down the local canal to find it partially frozen small bait fish were showing in the clear patches but would have had to paddle through the ice to get to them. Thankfully its only a 15 min drive.

Just checked with XC Weather, it is showing NO snow although cold at 0 degrees and believe it or not, SUN I went down to the lake yesterday, nobody there and the lake side track locked so I wonder if it is closed, I will check with the tackle shop tomorrow. If we have any problems, there is always the Ancolme at Brigg in tesco car park, no access issues but a little further to paddle or the leisure centre again on main roads. Doing accounts today but I will check it all out tomorrow and post results on here. As much as I am looking forward to both the fishing and seeing you guys, I will not put you at risk. Phil

It's snowing steadily at the moment. No problems on the roads as the snow is only settling on the grass but very light. I am going to check conditions at the venues this afternoon.

4.30pm and the snow has come down really heavy since 2.00pm. The roads around the Brandy Wharf area are very poor and whilst I had a couple of slight slides, I have four wheel drive.
I have checked the Ancolme in Brigg and it is quite accessible although the level of the water is down so we are looking at 18''+ drop to the water from the fishing platforms. This town stretch has produced quite a few pike in last few days as there is a large head of silvers in this section.
The lake is open according to the two tackle shops in the know although there is snow at the entry to the lake making it a bit slippy. There has not been any large pike taken so far this winter and the fish are ranging from 3-11lbs.
In the 2.5hrs I have been out looking at the venues, we have had approx 3'' of snow with the roads not so good. The outside lane is passable with care and whilst not deep, the snow is still coming down with the sky looking full.
My first thought was to call it off because of the distance some of you are traveling as the side roads and some of the 'A' roads are getting a bit tricky. On the wolds near to me, there are a couple of trucks now stuck between the hills. I do not know what to suggest, I only have a short distance to travel and I can easily fish from the bank but if you find difficulties in the morning it creates a much greater problem.
It is your call fellas, how do you feel about it. If you want to have a phone chat, give me a bell on 0788 773 5836. Just checked XCWeather which is showing no snow for tomorrow or tonight but who knows.
Oh yes the word is dead baits as the water is too coloured for lures. Bait is available in Brigg.
Phil
